Working for FTX Logistics

FTX Logistics Ltd is contracted to operate and maintain a fleet of 92 x Heavy Equipment Transporters (HET) in partnership with the British Army. FTX is tasked in peacetime by the Army in both the UK and Germany, to deliver heavy military equipment up to the 72 tonne Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank.

With HET based in Bulford and Catterick, Operators are assigned to tasks to move armour between designated military locations.

Job Opportunities

FTX Logistics delivers contracted Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) capability on behalf of the MoD.  It owns 92 military specification Oshkosh tank transporters.  Working closely with their affiliated regular Army unit, 19 Tank Transporter Squadron RLC, they provide both commercial HET support in the UK and Germany delivering heavy armour and military support to exercises and operations.

FTX provides this capability through the employment of Sponsored Reserves (SR).  All Operators (Drivers) and Maintainers (Mechanics) are required to be trained Reservists who are employed by FTX Logistics.  Operators are able to live anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales.  They carry out HET tasking from military locations throughout the UK and when not tasked with HET work, spare capacity is utilised by third party agencies driving C+E HGVs near to their home.  Maintainers work from either Bulford in Wiltshire or Catterick in North Yorkshire.

Required qualifications:

  • Operators – C+E HGV qualified with less than 6 Driving Licence points. Medically fit.

  • Maintainers – HGV Mechanic BTEC / City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3. HGV C+E licence is desirable.  Medically fit.

Army Reservist

FTX provides commercially qualified Operators and Maintainers to support routine movement of armour in the UK.

All Operators and Maintainers are required to become Army Sponsored Reserves, and will be affiliated to the Army’s Tank Transporter Squadron based in Bulford. This requires them to pass military Reserve entry level standards for medical and fitness. Military personnel already serving can transfer directly.
